THUNDER BAY- The St. Cloud Rox lost to the Thunder Bay Border Cats 10-5 at Port Arthur Stadium Monday night. The Rox are now 5-7 on the season, while the Border Cats improve to 5-8 with the win.
It was a back and forth game during the contest's early innings, with the Border Cats striking first in the bottom of the second. Cats catcher Matt Jones (Central Arizona) hit a one out triple off of Rox starter Alex Roberts (Newberry) and scored on a Cory Kay (Houston) single.
The Rox evened it up in the top of the third inning on a Boo Vazquez RBI double to score Andy Henkemeyer (Minnesota). Henkemeyer had reached on a walk and stolen second base.
Thunder Bay got the run right back in the bottom of the third on a Jones sacrifice fly, making the score 2-1 after three innings.
St Cloud put up three runs in the top of the fourth inning to re-take the lead. Nick Rau (Georgia Southern) hit a two-RBI single and Phil Imholte (St Cloud State) knocked in the third run of the inning with an infield hit.
The Border Cats clawed back in the bottom of the fourth with six straight hits off of Roberts and four runs to take the lead for good. The top three hitters in the Border Cats lineup combined to go 10-17 with 5 RBI and 4 runs scored.
For the Rox, Adam Martin (Western Carolina) stayed hot, going 2-4 to raise his average to .458 on the season. Boo Vazquez was 2-5 with two RBI to raise his average to .333 this year. The Rox are at Thunder Bay for two more games, Tuesday at 6 pm and Wednesday at 10 am.
