SALT LAKE CITY -- Chone Figgins hit a three-run homer and Jeff Guiel added a two-run shot as the Salt Lake Stingers beat the New Orleans Zephyrs, 8-6 on Friday Night in Salt Lake City.
After Keith Johnson ripped a two-run double in the bottom of the second inning, Figgins hit his first homer in 134 at-bats this year to cap a five-run frame. Guiel, who singled and scored on the double by Johnson, hit his second home run of the year with Adam Riggs on base to supply Salt Lake with a 7-0 lead after 4 1/2 innings. Chris Bootcheck (1-4) allowed five runs and seven hits in 6 2/3 innings to get credit for the win. Rich Rodriguez struck out two of the men he faced in a perfect ninth to get his first save for the Stingers, who won their seventh game in a row.
Alan Zinter hit a two-run homer and Raul Chavez added a solo shot for New Orleans, which was outhit, 15-8. Jared Fernandez (4-4) was hit for seven runs and 10 hits in five innings of work to absorb the loss.
