Tucson Sidewinders News Release

Tacoma produced 16 hits and a pair of home runs Saturday afternoon on the way to an 8-3 victory over the Tucson Sidewinders at Cheney Stadium. The Rainiers rebounded from an 8-0 shutout Friday night in which they collected just two singles.

The four-game series is even at a game apiece. Tucson's four-game winning streak ended as did Tacoma's four-game losing skid.

Kenny Kelly's three-run homer started the scoring in the first inning off Chris Cervantes. Kelly tripled in the third inning and scored on a sacrifice fly by Craig Kuzmic. Kelly later added a run-scoring double in the eighth inning to finish a single shy of the cycle.

Brian Gordon put Tucson on the board with a solo home in the second. Robby Hammock lined a solo home run over the fence in left in the fifth inning to pull the Sidewinders within a run at 4-3. However Tucson would get no closer.

Kuzmic provided an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth when he stroked a ball to deep center field which deflected off Luis Terrero's glove and rolled to the 425 sign in straight away center. Kuzmic circled the bases for an inside the park home run and a 5-3 Tacoma lead. The Rainiers added three runs in the eighth inning off Greg Swindell to provide the final margin.

Tucson dropped to 22-25. The Sidewinders and Rainiers will play another 1:35 p.m. game Sunday afternoon at Cheney Stadium. Mike Gosling (3-4 7.04) will start for Tucson against Tacoma's Ken Cloude (0-3 5.98).
