Sting Shutout the Storm

Justin Fazio, was in top form tonight as he stopped all 24 shots as the Sarnia Sting beat the Guelph Storm 7-0 before 3,160, at the Sarnia Sports and Entertainment Centre.

It was Fazio's second shut-out of the season, he blanked the Barrie Colts 1-0, on the road on October 1st. For his effort, Fazio was selected as the game's third star.

The seven goals matched the season high output for the Sting (7-2 win over the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, October 23rd) and Sarnia also set a season high mark with six goals in a single period.

Pavel Zacha and Jordan Kyrou, each scored two goals and Brandon Lindberg had two assists. Zacha was the number one star and Kyrou, was named second star. Connor Schlchting, scored his first goal of the year to round out the scoring for Sarnia.

The Sting special teams had a big night, scoring three times with the man advantage and was perfect on the penalty kill, as the Storm went 0/5 with the man advantage.

Sarnia opened the scoring with a pair of goals 45 seconds apart. Zacha, won the battle along the half wall and then went directly to the net scoring on the short side for his first of two goals in the opening frame. The goal was unassisted.

Moments later Brown received a perfect pass from Hayden Hodgson along the boards and from between the face-off circles he let go a shot that beat goaltender Bradley Van Shubert on the blocker side. It was Brown's second of the season.

White made it 3-0, with his fourth on the year at 7:02, slapping a rebound past the fallen Van Shubert. Zacha, scored his second and ninth goal this year, on the power play at 14:32 with Jeff King and Jakob Chychrun drawing the assist.

Kyrou, netted the final two goals of the period less than two minutes apart on the power play and at even strength. Nikita Korostelev and Lindberg had the assists on the man advantage goal and the second goal was unassisted.

The second period was scoreless but did have it's moments.

Brown had the best scoring chance for the Sting as he rang iron, near the mid-point of the period.

Fazio had the crowd cheering after he fell behind his net trying to stop a puck that was shot in from the blue-line. He managed to clear the puck while sitting on the ice, behind the net.

Zacha got into a tussle with Brock Phillips with less than six minutes to play and both players were sent off with roughing minors.

Referee Ryan Moniz took a high stick and left for the final two minutes for stitches to the lip which drew blood.

Schlichting closed out the scoring in the third period, netting his fist of the year on the power play. Lindberg drew the lone assist.

With the win Sarnia goes to 11-7-2, pulling to with-in five points of West Division leader, the Windsor Spitfires.
