IceDogs March Past Generals 4-2

November 14, 2015 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Niagara IceDogs News Release

The Niagara IceDogs picked up their sixth win in the past seven games Saturday night against the defending Memorial Cup champion Oshawa Generals, topping them 4-2 in front of 4757 fans at the Meridian Centre.

The IceDogs came close to scoring early on in the period when a centering pass was tapped off of the post, and bounced through the crease, somehow not managing to find its way past the goal line. That would be one of few chance in the frame as both teams were kept in check well with some solid defensive play in both ends and the goaltenders were solid for each team in the first period, keeping things scoreless. The shots on goal were 7-4 in favour of the visiting Generals.

The second period was full of excitement, but neither team was able to find the scoresheet. Brent Moran held the fort down making a number of key saves on five IceDogs' penalty kills. He managed to stone Oshawa forward Michael Dal Colle with a key stick save, keeping the game all knotted up. The post had the home teams' number once again as Brendan Perlini rang a rocket of a one-timer off the post on a 5-on-3 man advantage. Despite being on the penalty kill for a lengthy portion of the frame, the IceDogs still managed to outshoot the Generals 12-10 in the period.

The IceDogs showed tons of heart in the third period, battling back after going down twice and responding almost immediately. Josh Ho-Sang snapped a quick wrist shot through the five hole of Generals' goalie Jeremy Brodeur while flying down the wing, just a couple minutes after the Oshawa opened up the scoring. Just 28 seconds after Oshawa took their second lead of the period, Johnny Corneil fought hard in front of the net to get his stick on a centering pass to tie the game up at twos. After battling hard all period, Aaron Haydon would play the hero, when his seeing eye point shot found its way past Brodeur's blocker to give the IceDogs their first lead of the game at 3-2. Anthony DiFruscia would then put the game out of reach, by potting an empty netter with just 1:08 left to play to make it a 4-2 final. The IceDogs were too much for the Generals to handle in the final period as they outshot the visiting team 18-5, making it a 34-22 final shot total.

Aaron Haydon, Johnny Corneil, and Ryan Mantha took home the games' three stars on the evening, all showing heart and the guts to help get the team the victory.

The IceDogs will be back at home next Thursday, November 19th to take on Dylan Strome and the Erie Otters. Tickets for this, and all other IceDogs games are still available and can be purchased at all IceDogs' ticketing locations.
