Sarnia Sting News Release
The Sarnia Sting hosted the London Knights on Sunday afternoon.
Progressive Auto Sales arena was packed with fans anticipating our second Battle of the 402 this season. It came as advertised.
In the first period, the Sting came out to a blazing start. Just thirty seconds into the game, Sarnia defenceman Mitch Eliot scored his second of the season. Sean Josling set up the puck for a one-timer, and Eliot - while dropping to his knees - fired a rocket past Knights goaltender Joseph Raaymakers.
London responded not long after. Knights forward Dalton Duhart swung in front of Sting goalie Aidan Hughes and potted his second of the year. It was a 1-1 game.
Late in the period, it was time to trade powerplay goals.
Sting forward Hugo Leufvenius buried his fifth of the season on a sweet setup from new linemate Adam Ruzicka. Leufvenius held his ground in the blue paint before opening himself up to receive a pass from Ruzicka. With the puck in the twine, the Sting held a 2-1 lead.
Cole Tymkin replied for the visitors. Tymkin unleashed a hard shot from in close that found the back of the cage. After a busy first period, the game was knotted at 2-2.
Ethan Langevin took over in goal for the Sting to begin the second period.
Midway through the frame, as the Sting peppered the Knights with shots, London managed to grab the lead. Veteran forward Josh Nelson scored his second of the season, taking advantage of some hectic movement in front of Langevin. It was 3-2.
Sarnia continued to dominate the shot sheet, but the Knights had the bounces today. Billy Moskal extended London's lead to 4-2 with under two minutes remaining in the third. It held as the final score.
Shots on goal for us today were 38 to London's 22. The official box score can be viewed here.
We'll return to action on Friday when the Flint Firebirds come visit The Hive! Game time is 7:05 PM at Progressive Auto Sales Arena.
