Oshawa Generals News Release
The Oshawa Generals returned home from their road trip tonight to take on the Peterborough Petes at the Tribute Communities Centre. The Gens came into the game with a 5-4-1-0 record after getting two big road wins against the Petes on Thursday and the London Knights on Friday. With Peterborough in town, the Gens looked to take down their rivals and extend their winning streak to three games.
1st Period:
The Gens came out of the gate ready to play, getting a huge opportunity on net early and then drawing a penalty shortly after. On the powerplay, Oshawa had an amazing opportunity off a beautiful move and pass from Kyle MacLean to Serron Noel that was just stopped by Petes goalie Hunter Jones. After the man advantage, the Gens continued to control the pace, keeping the play in the Petes end for the majority of the period's opening half. With eight minutes left in the period, the Petes received a five-minute major for blindsiding to give the Gens a long powerplay opportunity. While they didn't score on the chance, the Gens had some good looks on net and a few quality scoring chances. With just under a minute left in the period, Serron Noel deked his way in toward the front of the net where he was able to score off a scramble play, putting the Gens up 1-0 heading into the second period.
2nd Period:
The Gens picked up where they left off and had a few shifts of great pressure to start the second. The Petes were able to answer with an offensive chance of their own on a breakaway that was denied with an incredible stop from Generals goalie Kyle Keyser. However, the Petes gained some momentum from the chance and scored a couple minutes later to tie the game at 1-1. Shortly after, the Petes had another breakaway that Keyser was once again able to make a huge save on, keeping the game tied. Feeding off the save, Eric Henderson picked off a pass and moved the puck to Ty Tullio who ripped home his first career OHL goal with a perfect one-timer. Oshawa didn't stop there, with another first OHL goal coming from Cole Resnick right after. The pair of firsts put the Gens up 3-1 at the halfway mark of the game. In the latter half of the second, the Petes generated some offensive chances but Keyser was able to shut the door. The Gens would hold their 3-1 lead for the remainder of the period, heading into the third up by two.
3rd Period:
The period began with the Gens getting called for a tripping penalty to put them down a man. With a strong effort on the PK, Oshawa managed to limit Peterborough's chances and keep their two-goal lead as the penalty expired. In the first half of the period, both teams exchanged chances as the play shifted from end to end. At the ten-minute mark, Serron Noel showed off an amazing solo effort to gain the Petes zone before passing it in front for a shot that was stopped by Hunter Jones. The Gens ramped up the pressure in the last half of the period, putting lots of pucks toward Peterborough's net. They were finally rewarded for their efforts on a Serron Noel shot that beat the Petes for Noel's second of the game. With a three-goal lead late in the third, the Gens were able to keep the Petes off the board in the last few minutes and win the game 4-1.
With their third straight victory, the Generals will look to continue their winning ways on the road in Hamilton on Friday against the Bulldogs. The team will then return to Oshawa for back-to-back home games against the Kitchener Rangers on Saturday and the Kingston Frontenacs on Sunday.
