Sarnia Sting News Release

Sarnia, ON. - Sarnia Sting General Manager Dylan Seca announced this morning that the Hockey Club has acquired Forward Cooper Way and an 8th round pick in the 2025 Ontario Hockey League (OHL) Priority Selection in exchange for Forward Ryder McIntyre.

McIntyre, an 18-year-old Stoufville, Ontario native was originally selected by the Sting in the 3rd round of the 2020 OHL Draft. Over 63 regular season games played with the Sting, the 6'3" winger tallied 4 goals and 5 assists.

"Ryder is a player who is looking for more opportunity, and we feel this trade provides that." comments Seca. "Ryder has been a great member of our organization and we wish him nothing but the best in the future."

Along with a 2025 8th round pick, this morning's trade welcomes 19-year-old Forward Cooper Way to the Sting organization. The 6'3", 199-pound Waterloo, Ontario native has recorded 5 goals and 4 assists through 76 career OHL games played.

On the addition of Way, Seca adds:

"We've been looking to add more character players with both identity and experience. Cooper is a power forward who has the size and physicality that becomes more important as the season progresses. He's been a key part of the Oshawa penalty Kill and has been counted on for late faceoffs. Cooper is a leader both on and off the ice, works in the gym and is an excellent student, and he is a player we have been looking to add for quite some time. We welcome Cooper and the Way family to the Sting organization."

The Sarnia Sting are set to play back-to-back home games this weekend as the Flint Firebirds come to town on Friday Night for a 7:05pm matchup before the Niagara IceDogs make their first trip to the Hive since 2019 on Saturday.
