
Steven Later to Join Mavericks Tonight, Wakita Moved to IR

INDEPENDENCE, Missouri -Missouri Mavericks' Head Coach Scott Hillman announced today defenseman Steven Later has joined the team and will play his first game for the Mavericks tonight in Tulsa. Hillman also announced Mavericks' defenseman Mike Wakita has been moved to the 10-day injured reserve list.
Later, 26 (9/12/84), is a 6-foot-4, 200-pound defenseman currently in his sixth year of professional hockey. The Winnipeg, Manitoba native played his first three seasons in the ECHL and 11 games with the American Hockey League's (AHL) Toronto Marlies during his rookie season.
In total, Later has played in 268 professional games in the AHL, ECHL, IHL and CHL and he has 140 points (44-96140) and 1,045 penalty minutes. This season with the Brahmas, he had 20 points (3-1720) and 95 penalty minutes in 31 games. He had a career year with the IHL's Muskegon Lumberjacks during the 2008-09 season where he had career highs in points with 29 (6-2329) and penalty minutes with 296.
Prior to playing professionally, Later played three seasons of major junior hockey in the Western Hockey League (WHL) where he amassed 18 goals, 58 assists and 426 penalty minutes in 139 games played.
The Mavericks and Eagles close out their three-game road trip tonight against the Tulsa Oilers at BOK Center. The Mavs return home this weekend for a Friday matchup with the Rapid City Rush and a Saturday game against the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs.
