Stephens Named to Canadian WJC Selection Camp Roster

SAGINAW, MI - Hockey Canada announced Tuesday, their selection camp roster for the 2016 World Junior Championships being held in Helsinki, Finland beginning on December 26th.

Among the 30 players selected to represent Canada was Spirit forward Mitchell Stephens. The third-year player from Peterborough, Ontario is a second round pick of the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2015.

Last season, Stephens represented Canada in the U-18 World Championships and won the gold medal at the Ivan Hlinka Tournament.

"As an organization we are very proud of Mitchell Stephens being named to the Canadian World Junior Selection camp." said Spirit GM Dave Drinkill.

"Being recognized as one of the best junior players in Canada is quite an accomplishment and shows that he is being rewarded for his hard work and dedication to the game. We want to wish him the best of luck and know he will represent the Spirit extremely well on and off the ice."

The selection camp begins on Thursday, December 10th in Etobicoke, Ontario.

In total, 22 players will be selected to represent Canada at the 2016 IIHF World Junior Championship.

Canada opens the tournament against the United States on Saturday, Dec. 26 at 2 p.m. ET.
