
Stephens Homers Twice in M-Braves' Third Straight Win

BILOXI, MS - Landon Stephens blasted two homers to help power the Mississippi Braves (36-37) past the Biloxi Shuckers (36-38) 9-2 for their third straight win on Sunday night at MGM Park.
After five homers last night, the M-Braves hit four more and have homered 12 times in the series. Stephens moved into a tie for the league lead with 15 home runs. Luke Waddell contributed three hits and two RBI.
In the first an RBI groundout by Cade Bunnell put the M-Braves ahead 1-0. The Shuckers answered with a run in the bottom of the inning to tie it at 1-1.
In the fourth, Stephens tied the game at 2-2 with a solo shot to left field.
Tanner Gordon went five innings and allowed two runs. The right-hander gave up five hits and two walks with four strikeouts. In nine starts for the M-Braves, Gordon is 4-3 with a 3.14 ERA in 48 2/3 innings.
In the sixth, the M-Braves loaded the bases. Cal Conley brought in a run after being hit by a pitch. Then, Waddell punched a base hit to center to score two runs and make it 5-2.
Waddell went 3-for-4 with a walk and two RBI. The infielder pushed his batting average to .309 with the M-Braves.
Stephens homered again on a lined shot to left field to make it 6-2 in the seventh. The outfielder picked up his first multi-home run game of the season and moved into a tie with Austin Shenton for the league lead with 15 home runs. Stephens finished 3-for-4 with two home runs, a double, a walk and two RBI.
Bunnell and Hudson Potts each homered in the ninth to add three insurance runs and make it 9-2. Bunnell homered down the right-field line for his 10th home run while Potts blasted a two-run shot down the left-field line. Potts went 2-for-3 with his fifth home run and eighth double.
The M-Braves bullpen held the lead in the final four innings. Ty Tice, Domingo Gonzalez, Kyle Wilcox and Victor Vodnik each pitched scoreless innings to hold the lead. Jacob Pearson finished 2-for-4 with a double and a walk in his second straight multi-hit game.
The series finale is on Monday at MGM Park. RHP Alan Rangel (1-8, 5.06) will pitch for Mississippi while a starter to be named will pitch for Biloxi. The first pitch is at 6:05 pm CT, with coverage starting 15 minutes before on 102.1 The Box, First Pitch App, and Bally Live.
