Quad City Mallards News Release

TULSA, Okla. (November 12, 2011) - Gary Steffes struck for a hat trick and the host Tulsa Oilers broke loose for four second period goals on the way to a 6-2 win over the Quad City Mallards Saturday night.

Jeff Terminesi's breakaway goal triggered the second period Tulsa onslaught and doubled what had been a 1-0 lead at 9:10. The Oiler lead stretched to 3-0 when Gerome Giudice finished off a give-and-go with Jay Sprague at 14:32. Just less than two minutes later Sprague converted Marty Standish's centering pass to make it 4-0. Steffes redirected his second goal home from the edge of the crease to cap off the Tulsa outburst with 1:19 left in the second.

The Mallards replaced starting goaltender David McKee with Brad Fogal after the second period and battled back with third period goals from Obi Aduba- on a breakaway- and Jason Kostadine- from the doorstep on a power play- before Steffes capped off the evening for the Oilers by scoring his third from point blank range at 17:11 of the third.

It was Steffes who had kick-started the Tulsa attack by scoring the first of what proved to be five straight Oiler goals with a tip-in at 8:43 of the first period.
