Steffes' Hat-Trick Sparks Oilers Win Over Mallards
November 12, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Tulsa Oilers News Release
TULSA, OK - Forward Gary Steffes scored a goal in each period on Saturday night, and the Oilers (5-4-1) played one of their best games of the season to snap a three game losing skid with a 6-2 win over Quad City (3-5-0) in front of 5,020 at the BOK Center.
Steffes, in his second season with the Oilers, put Tulsa out front in the first period by tipping in Luke Lucyk's wrist shot at the 8:43 mark. For the first time in four games the Oilers held a lead in the opening frame.
The floodgates really opened in the second period when Jeff Terminesi scored on a breakaway for his first goal as an Oiler. Just five minutes later, Gerome Giudice tapped home a pretty pass from Jay Sprague for his first goal in a Tulsa uniform to put the home team up 3-0. Sprague chipped in his second goal in as many games and then Steffes capped off the Oilers best period of the season with his second goal of the night off a feed from Michel Beausoleil.
The Mallards were finally able to solve Ian Keserich in the third, but Keserich finished the night with 29 saves on 31 shots and registered his fifth win of the season.
Steffes was lurking in front of the net late in the third when he took a pass from Beausoleil from behind the net and jammed it past Brad Fogal to complete the hat-trick.
Tulsa improved to 2-1-1 at home and is now 4-1 on the season when scoring the first goal.
The Oilers are back home Sunday afternoon at 4:05pm when they take on Wichita for the second time this season. The Thunder took the first meeting 6-2 on October 28th. After Sunday's game, fans can come down to the ice to skate with the Oilers players.
Tickets: Season tickets for the Oilers 20th season in the CHL are now on sale. More information is available by calling the Oilers office at (918) 632-PUCK (7825) or by visiting www.tulsaoilers.com.
