SteepleCats Hammer Mainers on the Road

June 14, 2016 - New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL)
Sanford Mainers News Release

NORTH ADAMS, MA - It took a lone, explosive inning for the SteepleCats to take charge of the entire ballgame as North Adams (4-2) pounded the Mainers (3-2) by a score of 9-2 from Joe Wolfe Field.

The SteepleCats did a majority of their damage in the 2nd inning, when they scored six runs on three hits and an error, chasing starter Troy Miller (Michigan) after just inning and a third pitched. Miller allowed four hits, six runs, four earned, walked three and struck out two before he was relieved.

In the 2nd, Miller loaded the bases on a single and a pair of walks, before walking another man to put the SteepleCats on the board with 1-0 lead. A single would knock in another run, with a Dan Holst (SE Missouri State) bases clearing double doing the brunt of the damage.

North Adams would strike again in the 5th inning with back-to-back home runs as Keaton Wright (So. Il. Edwardsville) hit a two-run shot to right field and Ben Bengston (Hartford) followed him with a shot over the center field wall to make it 9-0.

Sanford would get on the board however in the top of the 6th. The hot-hitting Chris Gaetano (Monmouth), the hero from the Mainers home opener, hit his second home run in as many nights to right field, a no-doubter that brought in C.J. Krowiak (Binghamton) to make it 9-2.

In addition to their offense, the SteepleCats dominated from the mound as well. Peter Lanno (Cornell) got the start and went six innings, allowing five hits, two runs, two earned, three walks on his way to setting down eight men by way of the strikeout. The rest of the SteepleCats bullpen scattered four hits and a walk across the remaining three innings of play, striking out three Mainers in the process.

Sanford will look to rebound tomorrow, June 15 when they travel to Laconia, New Hampshire to take on the Winnipesaukee Muskrats. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 at Robbie Mills Park, with pregame coverage, game action, and the post-game show on the NECBL Broadcast Network and The Legends in Sanford, 1220 AM and 102.3 FM.
