Brampton Steelheads News Release
MISSISSAUGA, ON - Coming off a win last night in North Bay against the Battalion, the Steelheads were back at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre for their first of two games at home this weekend. It was a big game against one of the top teams in the OHL, the Peterborough Petes. With a shutout performance by Jacob Ingham and Owen Tippett's 100th career OHL goal (also the game winner), the Steelheads now own the best record (winning percentage) in the OHL.
The first period saw the Peterborough Petes coming out with a bang as they were outshooting the Steelheads 4-1, but Ingham held the fort down with some great saves. As a couple of minutes passed, the Steelheads were able to catch up in the shots department. Not long after on the powerplay, Owen Tippett made a silky spin move and sniped for his 100th career OHL goal. Both netminders shut the door for the rest of the period and it was off to the second.
The second frame was another period which saw the Petes come out strong, only this time the Steelheads came out stronger. Despite taking a penalty early in the frame, the Petes responded with two penalties of their own and the Steelheads powerplay made them pay. Cole Schwindt cleaned up the garbage in the front of the net to give the Steelheads the 2-0 lead. It took the Steelheads only 30 seconds to score again, as Reisnecker put in his fourth goal of the season. Steelheads up 3-0 headed into the third period.
Both teams had their share of scoring opportunities in the third period, but it was the goalies who stole the show. Jones was able to shut the door throughout the period, but unfortunately for himself and the Petes, so was Ingham. With a 33 save performance, Igham's first shutout of the season helped lead the Steelheads to a big 3-0 win over the Petes.
The Steelheads are back at home Sunday when they face off against the league leading Ottawa 67s at 2:00pm at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre. Tickets can be bought at the box office or online here at TICKETMASTER.
