Brampton Steelheads News Release
Mississauga, ON - The Steelheads welcomed the Sudbury Wolves to the Hershey Centre this afternoon for the first time this season. The Trout have faced the Wolves twice this season with both meetings taking place at the Sudbury Community Arena where each picked up a victory. Sudbury defeated the Trout on September 27th in a shootout 5-4 while the Steelheads returned the favour last Saturday, defeating the Wolves 5-1.
The Steelheads wasted no time getting things going as Nathan Bastian fed Mikey McLeod in front of the Wolves net to open the scoring at 2:57. Alex Nylander picked up the extra helper on McLeod's 7th of the season. The Steelheads would see their first power play opportunity at 4:58 of the opening frame as Trenton Bourque would head to the box to serve two for holding. Nylander would put the Steelheads up by two with a beautiful one-time shot from the point just four seconds into the power play. Bastian picked up his second assist of the night on Nylander's 11th of the season. Just past the midway point of the period, Owen Tippett would jump ahead of Brandon Bastasin and sneak his fourth of the season from Everett Clark and Damian Bourne past Matthew Menna to give the Trout a 3-0 in the first. Shots on goal in the opening frame were 14-13 in favour of Mississauga.
Mississauga continued to dominate in the second, extending their lead 4-0 at 12:35 of the middle frame. Nathan Bastian set up Nylander perfectly in front of the Sudbury goal and he made no mistake, netting his second of the game. Mikey McLeod had the other assist on Nylander's twelfth of the season. The Steelheads held a 4-0 lead through 40 minutes of play. Shots on goal in the second were 11-11.
After assisting on three of Mississauga's four goals, Nathan Bastian would add one of his own in the third, jumping on a loose puck in the Wolves zone. Assists on Bastian's eighth of the season and fourth point of the game went to Stefan LeBlanc and Mikey McLeod. With time winding down in the final frame, Austin Osmanski threw a beautiful pass to send Brendan Harrogate on a breakaway where he made no mistake with a backhand shot. Ryan McLeod picked up the other assist on Harrogate's third of the season as the Steelheads cruised to a 6-0 win over the Wolves.
The Steelheads are back home this Wednesday to host the Hamilton Bulldogs for their annual School Day Game at 11 a.m.
