
Steelheads Reel in Two STU Grads

BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads announced today they have added two St. Thomas University (Fredericton, New Brunswick) graduates to their 2003-04 roster. The pair of 24-year old wingers played together on the "Tommies" 2002-03 team under the direction of Mike Eagles, a 15-year NHL veteran and AUS (Atlantic University Sports) Coach of the Year.
Mike Hanson, a native of Oakville, Ontario finished third in scoring in 2002-03 with 39 points in 28 games (16G, 23A and 50 PIM). The 5'11, 197-pound finished out last season with the UHL's (United Hockey League) Quad-City Mallards scoring 8 points in only 10 games (4G, 4A). Hanson played a key role for the Mallards during the playoffs also, helping the team reach the UHL Colonial Cup finals, and racking up points in 12 games (4G, 2A and 31 PIM). The Mallards lost the final series 4-1 to the Fort Wayne Komets.
Andrew Proskurnicki (Pra-SKUR-Nicky) is a 6'3", 210-pound Burlington, Ontario native, and was selected 8th round, 210th overall by the New York Rangers in the 1997 NHL draft. Proskurnicki, considered to be one of the premier two-way forwards in the AUS, finished his last season at STU with 27 points in 28 games played (9G, 18A and 58 PIM). He ended 2002-03 with the ECHL's Louisanna IceGators, scoring 7 points in 10 games (5G, 2A). As well, Proskurnicki led the team in scoring during the playoffs with 3 goals and 1 assist.
The Steelheads are slated to open their inaugural season in the ECHL, on October 17th at the Bank of America Centre against the expansion team, Las Vegas Wranglers.
