Brampton Steelheads News Release
The Steelheads got off to a rolling start this season, winning their first two games against Oshawa and Niagara. Offense wasn't at all an issue in the opening contests, as Mississauga netted five and four goals respectively, outscoring their opponents by one in each contest. The Steelheads would unfortunately see their short winning streak stopped against Sarnia, as the Trout fell 2-1 in the first Sunday matinee of the season.
The Steelheads will look to bounce back from the loss as they take on the Kingston Frontenacs in their first home-and-home series. Mississauga will visit Kingston on Friday, October 10 at 7:00 PM, before returning to the Hershey Centre for a Thanksgiving Day matinee on Monday, October 13 at 2:00 PM.
Kingston, much like Mississauga won their first two games of the season, but ran into some trouble with the Belleville Bulls, dropping both games in a home-and-home series last weekend. Both Mississauga and Kingston, with four points, sit in third place in their respective divisions.
Kingston's game against Belleville on Friday, October 3 is one they would surely like to forget. Despite heavily outshooting their opponent 40-19, the Frontenacs were only able to score two goals; Belleville countered on offense, scoring four goals on seven shots in the second period. Both the Steelheads and Frontenacs will look to get their offenses back on track in this weekend's matchups.
The Steelheads will look to start this year's season series off on the right foot against Kingston, as the Frontenacs were victorious in all four games last season. Captain Bryson Cianfrone and alternate Captain Josh Burnside led the Trout last season, each notching five points against the Frontenacs; however Kingston's Ryan Kujawinski was the star of the season series, posting nine points in four games. Kujawinski has a goal and an assists through Kingston's first four games this season. While the familiar faces will look to continue making an impact, Kingston's Robert Polesello and Mississauga's Sean Day will both attempt to add to their team-leading point totals. Polesello has three goals and two assists on the year, while Day has picked up a point in each of the Trout's game this season, with two goals and three assists thus far.
NOTABLES
Sean Day currently leads the Steelheads in scoring (2G, 3A), and has registered a point in every game this season.
Jason Smith scored his first OHL goal in his first OHL game this past Friday, helping the Steelheads to a victory over the Niagara IceDogs.
The Steelheads will line up against a familiar face in the next couple of games as ex-Steelhead Jacob Graves will take on his former team for the first time. Graves was dealt to the Frontenacs earlier this season after spending his entire OHL career in Mississauga.
Kingston 's Connor McGlynn is an Oakville, ON native, and was a member of the 2011-2012 Oakville Blades, where he played alongside current Steelheads Captain Bryson Cianfrone.
Kingston 's Shawn Tessier was a member of the OJHL's Whitby Fury in the 2012-2013 season, where he played alongside current Steelhead Everett Clark.
