Ottawa 67's News Release
OTTAWA -- Travis Konecny, the second-year forward who wowed Ottawa hockey fans during his rookie season last year with the Ottawa 67's, has been named the team captain for the 2014-15 campaign.
Jeff Brown, head coach of the 67's, made the announcement this morning on TSN 1200's TGOR program.
"Travis has been a captain through his minor hockey years and just about everywhere he's played. He displays excellent character and comportment both at the rink and away from the arena and he sets the standard for players in major junior hockey by the way he acts and the way he works at his game," said Brown.
Konecny, drafted first overall in the 2013 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection, led the 67's with 70 points last season (26 goals, 44 assists) and was named the recipient of the Emms Family Award as the league's rookie of the year.
The native of Clachan, Ontario, who turned 17 in March, served as the Canadian team's captain at the 2014 U18 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup tournament in August in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
Brown also named 20-year-old forward Brendan Bell as a 67's alternate captain.
"I am both humbled and honoured to have been chosen to wear the C for an organization so widely respected throughout the hockey world," said Konecny. "It's a privilege for Brendan and I to represent our franchise, our teammates and our fans."
The 67's begin the 2014-15 home schedule on Friday, October 10 with a return to Lansdowne at the arena at TD Place (formerly the Civic Centre) against the Niagara IceDogs at 7:30 p.m.
Ottawa also has a home-and-home series this weekend against the Oshawa Generals; the first game Sunday, October 12 at TD Place (2 p.m. face-off), the second game Monday afternoon in Oshawa.
Tickets for the 67's home games are available at the team website or by calling 613-232-6767.
