The Aces outshot the Steelheads 17-7 to open the hockey game, but neither team scored in the first period. Early in the middle frame, the Aces allowed the game's first goal for just the ninth time this year to fall into an early hole. Just 1:58 into the second period Chad Nehring scored as he crept out from the left corner and beat Gerald Coleman from in tight to make it 1-0 Steelheads. The Aces turned it around with a pair of goals later in the frame to take the lead. Garry Nunn scored on a rebound at 6:48 to even the score, and Wes Goldie gave Alaska the lead at 13:23 on the power play. The Aces dumped the puck in from center ice, and it bounced off a patrician in the boards right to the front of the net where Goldie was camped out to slam the puck into the net vacated by Idaho goaltender, Jerry Kuhn. The Aces took the 2-1 lead into the second intermission break, after outshooting Idaho 9-7 in the period.
The Steelheads took back control in the third period. Kael Mouillierat tied the game 2-2 at 5:38 and Jacob Cepis scored at 12:17 to give Idaho a 3-2 lead. Alaska forced OT on a late power play when Bryan Miller let a floating wrist shot go from the right point that found its way through traffic and past Kuhn at 16:15. The Aces had a power play in overtime, but could not take advantage and the game went to a shootout. In the shootout, Brian Swanson was the only one of five Aces to solve Kuhn, whil;e Idaho scored on two of their four chances to claim the victory.
Gerald Coleman (15-4-2) took the loss, making 23 saves on 26 shots, and Jerry Kuhn (8-8-3) made 41 saves on 44 shots, earning the win. The Aces power play went 2-9, while the Steelheads went 0-4. Alaska outshot Idaho 44-27 in the game.
