
Steelheads get two from Iowa, trim two

BOISE, Idaho - The Iowa Stars, American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the Idaho Steelheads, have reassigned forward David Bararuk and ECHL All-Star defenseman Brian Fahey to Idaho's roster.
The Steelheads also released forward Mike Young and defenseman Tom Zabkowicz, both rookies, from their try contracts. Bararuk, 22, was selected by the Dallas Stars in round 5, #147 overall in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, was instrumental in the Steelheads 2004 Kelly Cup Championship scoring 14 points (5 goals, 9 assists) in 15 post season games. The centerman was added to Idaho's playoff roster last season after playing the regular season with the ECHL's Louisana IceGators (42 games) and AHL's Houston Aeros (15 games). The 6-0, 180 pound Saskatchewan native skated in one of the Stars games this season, recording two penalty minutes in the Saturday, October 8th match against Omaha.
Fahey, was drafted by the Colorado Avalanche in round 4, #119 overall in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. In 2003-04, the 6-foot-1, 210-pound finished 5th in voting for ECHL Rookie of the Year and ECHL Defenseman of the Year, and was named to the ECHL All-Rookie Team while with (now defunct) Atlantic City. Prior to turning professional and playing in the ECHL and AHL, 24-year-old Fahey played four years with the University of Wisconsin (1999-2003) and two years with the US Junior National Team (1997-99).
Idaho opens its third season in the ECHL against the Long Beach Ice Dogs on Friday, October 21st at the Bank of America Centre. The puck drops at 7:10 pm.
