BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors announced today the signing of defenseman Scott Basiuk.

Basiuk, 25, enters his second season as a professional. The Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, native began last year with the South Carolina Stingrays before being called up to the AHL for a one-game stint with the Portland Pirates. Basiuk finished his rookie year with the Dayton Bombers, where he recorded 2 goals and 7 assists in 42 starts. Basiuk was in training camp with the Long Beach Ice Dogs just prior to signing with Bakersfield.

Basiuk played four years at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute before turning pro. The 6-foot-2 205-pound defenseman played in 128 games at RPI and scored 23 goals and 36 assists during his time with the Engineers. Scott made his mark in 2002 when he scored the game winning goal versus Dartmouth in the ECAC's play-in game at Lake Placid's 1980 Arena. He was named one of Rensselaer's co-captains during the final two seasons in 2002-03 and 2003-04. As a senior, Basiuk led all Engineer defensemen in goals (11), points (26) and power-play goals (8) and was honored as a member of the All-ECAC Second Team.
