VICTORIA, British Columbia - The Idaho Steelheads lost to the Victoria Salmon Kings, 3-2 in overtime at Bear Mountain Arena Thursday night, but picked up a valuable point and are now four points out of the final playoff spot in the ECHL's Western Division.

After a scoreless first period, the action heated up in the second frame. Idaho's starting goaltender, Colin Zulianello, had to leave the game 31-seconds into the period after a collision with Derek Campbell as he beat Campbell to a loose puck. Frank Doyle, who had been enjoying a well-deserved night off, came into the game and Chris Corrinet scored on a shorthanded breakaway with the first shot against Doyle at 1:42. Things got chippy in the middle part of the period, as Idaho was killing a major boarding penalty and the Salmon Kings were hit with two infractions of its own, effectively reducing the five-minute advantage to about one-minute.

Midway through the third period, Idaho tied it up when Bobby Russell redirected Jonathan Zion's shot from the blue line through traffic and past Rob Muntain for his 19th goal of the year at 10:25. Unfortunately, the game didn't stay level very long as Lance Galbraith turned the puck over, and Victoria's Alexi Glukhov beat two Steelheads defenders and scored under Doyle's right arm to regain the Salmon Kings' one-goal lead at 12:01. With one minute left, Idaho pulled Doyle for the extra attacker, and Galbraith found the puck in a scrum in front of the Salmon Kings' net, scoring with 11.7 seconds left to send the game to overtime. Idaho outshot Victoria 20-7 in the third and 40-19 for the game.

Victoria's Ryan Wade netted the game-winner over Doyle's right pad 1:37 into overtime, as the Salmon Kings applied pressure in the Idaho end and won its first overtime contest of the year, handing Idaho its first overtime defeat this season.

Of note: Idaho welcomed back forward Andrei Vasilyev from last year's Kelly Cup-winning team as the Russian was added to the Steelhead roster.
