Brampton Steelheads News Release

Mississauga, ON - The Mississauga Steelheads took on the league-leading Erie Otters Friday night at the Hershey Centre. The Otters came into Friday night following a 4-1 loss to the London Knights, only their eighth loss of the season, while the Steelheads hoped to get back in the win column having lost their last two. In arguably the best period of hockey they've played all season, the Steelheads jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first and managed to hold off the Otters for a 5-4 final.

Nathan Bastian opened the scoring at 9:03 of the first, finishing off a pass from Alexander Nylander from behind the net. Josh Burnside added the other assist on Bastian's 16th of the season. Just over a minute later, Daniel Muzito-Bagenda capitalized on the power play to put the Steelheads up by two. Josh Burnside and Nicolas Hague picked up the assists on the marker. With the Otters serving a five-minute major, Daniel Muzito-Bagenda would take advantage on the same power play to increase the Steelheads lead 3-0. Penalty trouble continued to cost the Otters as the Steelheads would return to the power play where Everett Clark gave them a comfortable 4-0 lead after 20 minutes of play.

The Otters did a good job to cut the deficit in the second period with goals from Kyle Maksimovich, Dylan Strome and Alex DeBrincat. The Steelheads were now only up by one after forty minutes.

Nicolas Hague netted the Steelheads fourth power play goal, and eventual game winner, just 31 seconds into the final frame. It was a very physical period with both sides taking a number of penalties. Hadyn Hopkins pulled the Otters within one at 14:01 with his first OHL goal, but Jack Flinn and the Steelheads hung on to edge the top team in the CHL 5-4.

With two goals on the night, Daniel Muzito-Bagenda was awarded first star honours, Alexander Nylander was second star with three assists, and Captain Josh Burnside, who played his 250th career game and had two assists, was third star.

The Steelheads will visit the Niagara IceDogs Sunday before returning home to the Hershey Centre for a Family Day showdown with the Sudbury Wolves.
