Brampton Steelheads News Release
Mississauga, ON - The Mississauga Steelheads took on the Niagara IceDogs at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre on Friday night to officially drop the puck on the 2019-20 season.
Niagara opened the scoring 23 seconds into the first period as Kyen Sopa tucked away a rebound off a shot from Philip Tomasino to put the IceDogs up by one. Not to be outdone, Nick Isaacson knotted the game up just a few minutes later off a rebound from a strong wrist shot by Cole Schwindt. The IceDogs answered back quickly, as Jonah De Simone capitalized on a bouncing puck that caught goaltender Kai Edmonds off-guard to regain the lead. Both teams traded penalties back-and-forth before heading to the dressing room with the IceDogs up 2-1.
The Steelheads started off the second period with some key opportunities on the powerplay, but couldn't beat netminder Tynan Tucker, as the score remained with the IceDogs up by one midway through. Niagara scored the loan goal in the frame as Sopa wired a shot for his second of the night.
Mississauga was faced with an uphill task to start the third period and continued to grind, but ultimately fell to the IceDogs by a score of 3-1. Forward Nick Isaacson impressed in the game, scoring the Steelheads only goal and generating numerous chances.
Captain Liam Ham had the following to say after the game, "It didn't show how we wanted tonight, but we worked hard, and we have a strong defensive core that will keep the puck out of the net".
