
Steelheads Capture Founders Cup With 4-0 Win

Boise, ID. â Wednesday night the Idaho Steelheads captured their first Founders Cup in franchise history with a 4-0 shutout win over the Tacoma Sabercats. The Steelheads also celebrated a special night as they honored Cal Ingraham with a first period intermission retirement ceremony that brought a 3-minute standing ovation from the crowd of 5,148 fans at the BofA Centre. In his final regular season home game, Ingraham setup a goal and brought a tremendous wave of emotion to the rink. The Steelheads are now 47-16-7 with a franchise best total of 101 points. The Steelheads wrap up the regular season on the road with a Friday night game in Fresno and a Saturday night game in Bakersfield. The Steelheads open the Larry Miller Subaru Mitsubishi Taylor Cup Playoffs on April 12th and 13th at the BofA Centre versus Anchorage. For Tickets call 331-8497 (TIXS).
In the first period Kevin Smyth (13) got the Steelheads on the board with a rebound goal at 12:31 of the frame. Smyth has now scored goals in six consecutive games. Idaho out shot Tacoma 18-6 in the period.
In the second period Scott Burt (14) scored for the third straight game when he flipped home a rebound at 5:44. Bobby Stewart then potted his team leading 38th goal of the season a little over a minute later at 6:54 to make it 3-0 Idaho. Late in the second the crowd got what it came see as Ingraham operated from behind the net and flipped one in front to Matt Oates (21) at 18:29 to increase the Steelheads lead to 4-0.
Steelheads goalie Jason Cugnet shut the door from there as he turned aside all nine Tacoma shot in the final frame. FINAL SCORE Idaho 4, Tacoma 0.
Cugnet got his first professional shut out, turning aside all 23 Tacoma shots to improve to 11-4-2. Mike Brusseau was outstanding in the net for Tacoma despite the loss, making 34 saves but taking the loss to fall to 17-21-2. Idaho went 1-2 on the power play while Tacoma went 0-5.

Playoff Tickets
Season ticket holders can pick up their playoff tickets right now at the Diamond Sports office located on the 4th floor of the Grove Hotel. Individual playoff tickets are available at the BofA Centre box office and all Select-A-Seat location.
