Idaho Steelheads News Release
BOISE, Idaho -The Idaho Steelheads announced today that three more players have been added to the 2006-07 roster, bringing the total announced players so far to 15. Forwards Mike Ramsay, Taggart Desmet [dez-met] and goalie John Daigneau [dane-yo] will join Idaho, the ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Dallas Stars and the AHL's Iowa Stars, for its tenth season.
Ramsay, a 5'8", 176-pounder out of New Market, ONT spent the 2005-06 season with the UHL's Motor City Mechanics, and the FNL's Assat Pori. With the Mechanics, the 22 year-old saw time in 24 games, scoring five goals and assisting on seven. The right-winger ended last season with the Assat Pori, competing in the league finals. Ramsay skated in 34 games, including 14 playoff contests, scoring seven goals (three in the playoffs) and four assists (three coming in the playoffs).
Head coach and director of hockey operations Derek Laxdal said, "Mike has tremendous speed and will cause problems for opposing defensemen. We look forward to Mike being a real crowd favorite."
Desmet is another strong forward joining the Steelheads. The 6'1", 205-pound, Strathmore, ALTA native comes to Idaho from the ECHL's Victoria Salmon Kings. The right-hander played in 12 games for the Salmon Kings, scoring three goals and assisting on 14.
"Taggart had impressive numbers when he joined Victoria at the end of last year," Laxdal said. "He is a big strong player that will drive the net and dominate defensemen."
Before joining the ECHL (2005-06), Desmet spent his collegiate career (2003-06) at Michigan Tech University. In his time with the Huskies, Desmet played in 104 games, racking up 21 goals and 36 assists.
Daigneau is a 6'4", 210-pound goalie out of Brookfield, Wisc. The lefty spent his college career (2002-06) at Harvard University. John led the Crimson in 43 career games, tallying 993 saves and a .914 save percentage. Daigneau protected the net to a 25-12-2 career record. He was also named the Crimson's team MVP.
"John is a big, mobile goalie who had a great break out year at Harvard last year," Laxdal said. "With his size and stats, he will be a great addition to Steve Silverthorn in the back end. I look to John to develop along the same lines that Steve did for us last year."
Both Desmet and Daigneau will attend Iowa's training camp.
