Phoenix RoadRunners News Release
PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Phoenix RoadRunners of the ECHL, a proud affiliate of the Phoenix Coyotes and the San Antonio Rampage, have announced the signing of rookie center Aaron Slattengren.
Slattengren, 24, tallied 10 goals and 18 points in 26 games at NCAA Division I Colorado College in 2005-06 before turning pro midway through his senior season. The Duluth, Minn. native signed an amateur tryout contract with the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League on February 19 and collected three assists in five games. Slattengren also appeared in one game for the Iowa Stars of the AHL and one regular season game and four playoff contests for the Idaho Steelheads of the ECHL.
"Aaron comes from a strong collegiate program at Colorado College that has produced several NHL-caliber players over the years, and we're very excited he has chosen to begin his first full professional season in Phoenix," said RoadRunners Head Coach Ron Filion.
While at Colorado College, Slattengren twice helped the Tigers advance to the NCAA Tournament, including a trip to the Frozen Four in 2005. He posted career-bests as a sophomore during the 2003-04 season with 15 goals and 29 points in 37 games to finish as the Tigers' second leading scorer, and completed his four-year collegiate career with 43 goals and 88 points in 145 games. Slattengren was also a member of the Junior A Omaha Lancers team of the United States Hockey League that captured the national championship in 2001.
Slattengren joins a RoadRunners roster that already includes forward Chase Trull, defensemen Brent Henley and Dusty Demianiuk, and goaltender Mike Mole.
The RoadRunners and Las Vegas Wranglers will tangle in a home-and-home pre-season series at 7:05PM on Thursday, October 12 at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas and at 7:15PM on Friday, October 13 at the Alltel Ice Den in North Scottsdale.
Opening Night 2006 at US Airways Center will be on Friday, October 20 when the RoadRunners welcome the Utah Grizzlies at 7:11PM for the first game of an opening weekend three-game series. Information on season tickets, half-season packages, and flex plans are available by calling (602) 462-GOAL.
