Victoria Salmon Kings News Release
Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, are pleased to announce the hiring of Dave Zarn as the hockey club's new Athletic Therapist.
Zarn, 30, comes to the Salmon Kings following three years as the Athletic Therapist and Strength and Conditioning Coach in the Okanagan Hockey Academy and Okanagan Hockey School. The Piney, MB native worked with the Midget AAA squad from June 2003 to August 2005, and is currently with the Summerland Sting of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL). He will commence his role with Victoria on September 1st.
Zarn earned his Bachelor of Science at the University of Manitoba in 2000 and studied Athletic Therapy at the University of Winnipeg. He has assisted with sports teams from basketball to soccer to gymnastics, but says hockey is home.
His playing career ended when he sustained a knee injury, but it led him to a different career path.
"My eyes were opened to the process and positive impact of athletic therapy," said Zarn. "After learning from the team's therapist, I was hooked."
He got his start with the Fort Garry Twins Hockey Club of the Manitoba Major Junior Hockey League (MMJHL) as Assistant Therapist and Equipment Manager for two years and Head Therapist for one year.
"My focus is injury prevention," said Zarn. "I am developing a good training base to minimize strains and pulls and keep the players happy and healthy."
Zarn will work in conjuction with the Manitoba Moose training staff by assisting any players sent to Victoria throughout the season.
"This is a great opportunity for me, as my eventual goal is to work in the NHL," he adds.
Zarn joins Grant Ferguson in the dressing room as part of the Salmon Kings training staff. Ferguson is entering his third season as the Salmon Kings Equipment Manager.
