Lehigh Valley Steelhawks News Release
Bethlehem, PA: The Lehigh Valley Steelhawks announced today that they have added Offensive Linemen Jon Mitchell to their roster, adding much needed strength and size to the team's trenches. Mitchell originally played three years at Morgan State before heading to Cheyney University located in Southeastern Pennsylvania.
Mitchell, a 6'3 1/2, 320 pound bruising Tackle is both a talented run and pass blocker who will be leaned on as the first line or protection in Coach Richard Britt's attacking style of offense. During his three year career and Morgan State and one year at Cheyney, Mitchell started in 21 games and was selected as a 2nd Team All-Conference Member his Senior Year.
"Jon Mitchell is a young man I feel can excel within our system and who will be relied on heavily to keep our Quarterbacks off their backs," stated Head Coach Richard Britt. "His athleticism for a big man in the trenches makes him a unique talent to find, especially in the indoor game."
In other team news, the Steelhawks are in the process of scheduling a second open tryout for December. During their first open tryout last month the Steelhawks signed ten individuals to their training camp roster. The team is allowed up to 45 individuals for February's camp, and must cut down to 30 before their 2011 opener February 26th at the Reading Express. Great season ticket packages, starting as low as $8 per game, are now available by calling the team's front office at 610-282-3100.
