Bloomington Extreme News Release
BLOOMINGTON (Ill.) - The Bloomington Extreme Indoor Football Team has re-signed two defensive players from the 2010 roster, Defensive Back B.J. Brown and Defensive Lineman Calvin Jones. The Extreme also add Wide Receiver Brandon Walker-Roby to the 2011 Roster.
B.J. Brown, 5'11" 185 lbs. Defensive Back from Eastern Illinois University, will return to the Extreme for his fourth season. In 24 career games with the Extreme, Brown has 10 interceptions to go along with 74 tackles and 10 pass deflections. During the 2010 season in which Brown battled ongoing hamstring injuries, he competed in 6 games, intercepting 4 passes and compiled 22 tackles. Brown, originally from Ft. Lauderdale, FL, currently resides and works in Bloomington.
Calvin Jones, 6'0 250 lbs. Defensive Lineman is a Normal Community High School graduate and native of the area and spent time at Illinois State University, will return to the Bloomington Extreme in 2011. Jones was with the Extreme during 2006 season as a linebacker, playing in 8 games and recorded 12.5 tackles, including 3 tackles for loss. In 2010, Jones joined the Extreme late in the season as a defensive lineman and recorded 11.5 tackles (9 tackles for a loss) and 5.5 sacks. In the Extreme's May 21 40-37 victory at La Crosse, Jones recorded a franchise best, 4 sacks in one game.
Brandon Walker-Roby, 5'11" 195 lbs. wide receiver from Indiana University has signed to play with the Extreme for the 2011 season. Walker-Roby, the brother of former IU standout and current New Orleans Saint wide receiver, Courtney Roby, compiled 246 yards on 26 receptions and 2 TD's while playing for the Hoosiers. In 2009, Walker-Roby played 4 games for the Ft. Wayne Firehawks of the CIFL, catching 19 passes for 224 yards and 2 TD's.
"At this level of football, it's important to have players on our roster with a strong commitment to our community", stated Head Coach Mike Murray. "Calvin came on strong late in the 2010 season to provide a much needed spark on defense. We're looking for him to carry that over into the 2011 season", Murray continued, "The corner position is one of the most difficult positions to play in the indoor game due to the advantage the offensive players have. BJ has been as solid and reliable as any other cornerback in the IFL." "In addition to his strong blood lines, Brandon Walker-Roby brings the element of speed and composure to an already strong group of receivers we have returning. With many of our players from 2010 re-signing to go along with the additions of several key talents, I'm excited for training camp to start."
The Bloomington Extreme will open training camp Sunday, February 13, 2011 and kick off the season two weeks later, Sunday, February 27, 2011 at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum against the Richmond Revolution with a 3:05 pm start time.
