Quad City Steamwheelers News Release

DAVENPORT, Iowa — For fans attending this Friday night's "War on I-74" between the Quad City Steamwheelers and the Peoria Pirates at The MARK of the Quad Cities, may be caught a little bit off guard by the jerseys that the Steamwheelers will be wearing.

Have no worries though, the only change is the style of the jersey, not the players. The Steamwheelers will wear a specially designed "Spirit of America" game jersey for the Fourth of July weekend game. The jersey's graphics incorporate the stars and bars of the America flag into a striking design that still maintains the basic elements of the regular Steamwheelers home jersey.

One jersey will be raffled off during the game for $10 per raffle ticket at the Steamwheelers information table on the main concourse at the MARK. The rest of the custom made collector jerseys (25 total) will be auctioned off after the conclusion of the game.

A stage will be erected on one side of the playing field right after the game so that players can come out and model their jersey for the fans while it is being auctioned off. The winning bidder will receive the jersey on stage from the players after he takes it off. They will have their picture taken together with the player and his jersey. The players will autograph their jerseys with a gold marker, (if the winning bidder so desires).

All net proceeds of the auction and raffle will benefit the Genesis Heart Institute through the Genesis Foundation.

In addition to staying post-game for the special Genesis Heart Institute jersey auction, Steamwheelers fans will also be able to get their official 2004 team poster provided at the end of the game by Valley Bank autographed free by all team members who will be seated at the tables on the playing field.

All players and coaches will be available for autographs until they are individually called up to the stage to have their jersey auctioned off. It will be an entertaining, busy post game party at the MARK.

The game itself will have the Steamwheelers defending their rights to the "Ruler of the River" trophy against the Pirates. The Steamwheelers and Pirates both are coming off back-to-back wins. The Steamwheelers are 8-4 and hold a one-game edge over the Louisville Fire (7-5), who just lost back-to-back games to the Pirates.

A special "4 for the 4th" Family Fun Pack ticket offer is being made for the Friday, July 2, Genesis jersey auction game, which kicks off at 7:30 p.m. at the MARK. The package includes four good $10 reserved seats, four soda pops, four hotdogs, and four bags of chips all for $44. The "4 for the 4th" Family Fun Pack can be purchased at The MARK box office.

Other game tickets for $7, $10, or $12 can be purchased at The MARK box office or through TicketMaster by calling 563-326-1111 or by visiting www.ticketmaster.com.

A free pre-game "Rockin' the Riverside" tailgate party in front of The MARK will feature nationally known recording artists, the fabulous Blue Band from 5-7:15 p.m. Lead singer Bob Dorr is a Davenport native and graduate of Davenport Central. The band is an outstanding party band, with a strong show band section playing a great mix of popular rhythm and blues music.
