Steamwheelers Report to Camp Today

DAVENPORT, Iowa — The Quad City Steamwheelers 2004 Fifth Anniversary season will begin to take shape tonight, when the players report for their first team briefing of the year.

All 32 players reporting to training camp must attend the briefing tonight at the Clarion Hotel in Davenport with Steamwheelers coaches and staff.

Players will begin arriving at 5:30 p.m. with the briefing beginning promptly at 6 p.m. The briefing is open to local media, who wish to interview incoming players and/or coaches.

"I'm excited about getting going," said Steamwheelers coach Rich Ingold. "I am quite encouraged about the guys we are bringing to camp."

The first practice of the year will be tomorrow from 5-7 p.m. at the Max Sports Complex, formerly Marycrest College Events Center, in Davenport.

Several former af2 coaches have joined AFL teams and more than 175 players have advanced to the AFL over the past three years.

Several players have moved on to the NFL from the af2 including the ‘Wheelers standout defensive rush end in 2003, Asa Francis, who last month signed with the Buffalo Bills to play in NFL Europe this spring.

The Steamwheelers are gearing up for their Fifth Anniversary season as one of the charter members of the league. Season tickets are currently on sale starting as low as $54.
