Law Assigned UTEP QB Rocky Perez, Training Camp Schedule Released

LAREDO, Texas – The Laredo Law have been assigned quarterback Rocky Perez. Perez played his college football at the University of Texas – El Paso. The Law begin training camp today with physicals and the first on field workout is scheduled for Thursday morning at the Student Activities Center. The Laredo Law 2004 af2 season begins April 3rd, with the home opener set for April 23rd at the LEC. Call the Law ticket office at (956)- 726-GAME (4263) or log onto www.laredolaw.com.

Perez set a school record with 26 touchdown passes during the Miners' 2000 WAC championship season. He ended his career rated third in completions (400), attempts (716), yardage (5,108), completion percentage (.559) and touchdowns (33) on the UTEP passing charts. He rates third in total offense (5,394 yards).

"Rocky is another guy with ties to south Texas since he comes from San Antonio," said Law head coach Scot Maynard. "I watched him play for many years at UTEP. He has a big time arm."

Perez came off the bench to lead UTEP to a 14-3 victory over 25th-ranked BYU as a freshman in 1997 at the Sun Bowl.

A San Antonio native, Perez earned first team All-WAC honors in 2000, when he ranked eighth in the nation in passing efficiency (147.1). He attended Oliver Wendell Holmes High School in San Antonio, earning All- City and All-District recognition on the gridiron. Perez received his bachelor's degree in kinesiology from UTEP in 2001.

Players report for physicals today with the first day of on field practice set for Thursday. Practice will begin at 9 a.m. at the SAC on Thursday.

LAW DANCE TEAM TRYOUTS

The Laredo Law will be holding tryouts for the dance team for the 2004 af2 season. Dance team tryouts will be held at the LEC on Wednesday, March 24th and Thursday, March 25th. Previous dancing experience preferred, but not required. Both nights the tryouts will begin at 6 p.m.

Saturday, March 20th
1st practice -- 10-11:30 a.m. at SAC

Sunday, March 21st
No on field practice
