Quad City Steamwheelers News Release
The last time these two teams met, the Quad City Steamwheelers defeated the Sioux Falls Storm 34-24 in the TaxSlayer Center. This week, the Storm return to Quad City to face a Steamwheeler team that's 2-0 over their last 2 games and 4-1 over their last 5.
At home vs. the Bucks last week, Quad City fell behind by 11 points. They made sure the game didn't end the way it started. After the 47-44 win, Head Coach Cory Ross told SteamwheelersFootball.com "This was a great victory for the team today! We didn't start as fast as we wanted but we did fight back into the game and finished strong. That's what we want to do as a team!"
Quarterback E.J. Hilliard took the game over, throwing 3 touchdown passes in the first half and rushing for 3 touchdowns in the second. 3 different receivers hauled in touchdown receptions for Quad City: Mike Carrigan, Keyvan Rudd and Trevon Saunders.
This week, the Steamwheelers will face a Sioux Falls team that, despite losing it's second consecutive game, went on the road and came within 2-points of defeating the defending IFL Champion Massachusetts Pirates (43-42 loss). They're not to be underestimated.
Storm RB Nate Chavious carried the ball 15 times for 118 yards and 3 rushing touchdowns. QB Dalton Sneed put up 4 total touchdowns (2 passing, 2 rushing) but only completed 2 of 8 passes. Both 2 completions went for touchdowns.
The Storm's defense pressured Pirates QB Alejandro Bennifield, notching 4 sacks. Beyond that, Bennifield had his way with their secondary, completing 19 of 23 (82.6%) for 4 touchdowns and 0 interceptions.
They'll be tested by 2019 IFL Offensive Player of the Year, E.J. Hilliard, who eclipsed 100 career touchdowns (passing and rushing) during last week's 6-touchdown performance vs. the Bucks.
What will happen when these two teams clash for the third time this season? Tune in Saturday May 28th at 7:05 PM CT to find out.
