Rattlers Look to Get Back in the Win Column against Bay Area

May 27, 2022 - Indoor Football League (IFL) - Arizona Rattlers News Release

The six-time World Champion Arizona Rattlers are looking to avenge their second loss of the 2022 season by facing off against the Bay Area Panthers in a Sunday showdown this weekend. The Rattlers fell to the Frisco Fighters 48-45 last Saturday at the Footprint Center in downtown Phoenix.

Looking to get back on track

The Rattlers responded well to their first defeat of the season, taking down the Massachusetts Pirates 59-29 on May 14 after falling to Tucson the week prior.

Arizona has lost two of its last three games, but relief could come on Sunday against the Panthers, who are an IFL-worst 1-8 in 2022.

The Rattlers have not lost back-to-back games since 2017, when they opened the year 0-2, losing to the Iowa Barnstormers and Sioux Falls Storm.

Bay Area bio-blast

The Panthers have struggled as a whole in their first year of operation, but will look to bring a top-four rushing attack to Phoenix on Sunday. Bay Area places fourth in total yards rushing, rushing yards per carry and rushing yards per game. Despite this, the Panthers' offense ranks as the worst in the IFL, due to a passing game that has yet to develop.

The Panthers' defense has been unable to make up for their offense's struggles, as Bay Area has allowed the fourth-most points in the league this season.

A nice friendly hello

The last five times the Rattlers have played a team they haven't previously played in franchise history, they have not lost.

The 5-0 streak began at the beginning of last season, when Arizona took down Northern Arizona 51-20 on May 16, 2021. Two of the Rattlers' wins came in back-to-back weeks, which included the Rattlers' 51-36 win over Duke City on June 19 and their 56-35 win over the Spokane Shock six days later.
