Somerset Patriots News Release
Bridgewater, New Jersey - The Somerset Patriots (19-28, 61-56) downed the Lancaster Barnstormers (19-27, 43-73) 5-3 on Thursday night at TD Bank Ballpark.
The Patriots jumped in front with a run in the second inning. Gabriel Bracamonte singled with an out, then advanced to third on a Craig Massey singled. With two outs in the inning, Bracamonte scampered home on a wild pitch.
But in the third, Lancaster plated two to take the lead. Caleb Gindl singled and later scored on a
Destin Hood RBI single, while Joe Terdoslavich walked and scored on a Jimmy Paredes throwing error.
The Patriots rallied, scoring a pair of runs to regain the lead in the fifth inning. Massey singled with one out, then stole second base and advanced to third on a balk. With the infield drawn in, Scott
Kelly smacked a double down the left field line to score the run. Then Will Kengor, two batters later, delivered a two-out RBI double to set Somerset ahead 3-2.
Michael Crouse (9) powered a solo home run to center field to lead off the seventh inning.
The 'Stormers got a run back in the eighth on a Michael Martinez (8) solo home run to make it a 4-3 game.
However, the Patriots extended the lead to two in the bottom of the inning. Edwin Espinal opened the inning with an RBI double and pinch runner Rey Navarro later scored on a two-base passed ball to push Somerset ahead 5-3.
David Holmberg (2-5) earned the win in his five-inning effort. The lefty allowed just two runs (one earned) on six hits.
Jonathan Albaladejo (2-9) was tabbed with the loss allowing four runs on nine hits across six innings of work.
Nate Roe (1) collected his first save of the season for Somerset pitching a scoreless ninth inning.
