New Britain Bees News Release

(High Point, NC) - The High Point Rockers (25-23, 66-52) defeated the New Britain Bees (21-24, 56-58) 4-3 at BB&T Point on Thursday evening to salvage the finale of a three-game midweek series.

New Britain starting pitcher David Roseboom (2-2) was tagged with the loss after surrendering three runs on five hits (one home run) across seven innings pitched, walking two while striking out six and tossing a wild pitch as the southpaw record his second consecutive quality start and third overall. High Point starting pitcher Joe Van Meter (8-4) picked up the win, firing eight scoreless innings on four hits allowed, walking two, striking out six, and hitting a batter.

High Point jumped out in front 1-0 versus Roseboom in the home half of the second when Richie Shaffer launched a solo home run to straightaway centerfield with one man down for his 23rd big fly of the season. The Rockers made it 3-0 in their favor in the last of the third frame courtesy of a Quincy Latimore two-run ground-rule double down the left field line that plated Stephen Cardullo and Jared Mitchell who reached base respectively with a single and a free pass when there were two out and the nobody on. Down to their final three outs of the night, New Britain was looking to mount a second consecutive ninth inning comeback, this time against Paul Clemens who came on in relief of Van Meter. With one away, 2019 Liberty Division All-Star Jonathan Galvez doubled. With two gone the last hope for the boys from the Hardware City was Zach Collier, who proceeded to draw a walk. In stepped another 2019 Liberty Division All-Star in Logan Moore, and the Bees backstop cracked avoided a Bees shutout in a big way, belting a three-run home run to right for his 12th round tripper of the campaign and second in as many ballgames against High Point, while also collecting his ninth tater in just 36 games played since the All-Star Break. Moore's one big swing of the bat got the visitors right back in the contest, but the Bees would fall just short as Clemens struck out pinch-hitter Bijan Rademacher swinging enabling the Rockers to avoid the sweep in a series that saw each of the three matchups decided by one-run. Galvez led the way with a pair of hits en route to the loss.

The Bees return New Britain Stadium on Monday, September 2nd when they welcome in the Somerset Patriots to the Nutmeg State in a battle between Liberty Division foes. First pitch is scheduled for 1:35 P.M. It's a special Labor Day matinee game in the Hardware City, so spend it with the Bees as part of a Dollar Monday! Field Box tickets and Martin Rosol Hot Dogs are just ONE DOLLAR EACH!
