
Staten's 45 power Ripknees over Rollers

St. Paul, MN. Former Minnesota State, Mankato All-American Jamel Staten continued his explosive play in the ABA, leading all players with 45 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Minnesota Ripknees (9-2) to a 114-101 victory over the Hammond Rollers on Thursday evening at the Gangelhoff Center in St. Paul, Minn. The win for the Ripknees extends their winning streak to seven games and extends their lead in the White Conference Central Division and further merits their #3 overall ranking in the lastest ABA Power Rankings.
Staten wasn't the only Ripknee with a double-double as former Minneapolis Henry and Oklahoma standout Johnnie Gilbert contributed 21 points and 13 rebounds in 32 minutes off the bench. Staten finished 14-23 from the field, 4-9 from three point range and 13-14 from the stripe and had four assists and four steals while Gilbert was 6-10 from the field and 9-12 from the foul line. Former Winona State all-NSIC forward Travis Leech added 15 points and 7 rebounds while former Oklahoma guard Jaison Williams pitched in with 12.
Minneapolis native and former Emporia State guard Tyrell Sledge dished out a game-high 8 assists while former University of Minnesota guard Mitch Ohnstad notched 7 assists and 8 points in 32 minutes off the bench.
The Rollers were led by former Bernidji State all-NSIC guard Derik Hollyfield's 28 pints whle Raymond Anthony added 20. The Ripknees and Rollers square off again Friday evening at 705 at the Gangelhoff Center on the campus of Concordia University-St. Paul.
