Minnesota Ripknees News Release

Ripknees Open Season With a Win

Last Thursday night, the Minnesota Ripknees found out that they were the newly scheduled opponent of the Rochester Fire the very next night. The Ripknees were needed to fill in for the St. Louis Stunners, who were a last minute scratch.

Regardless of the short notice, the Ripknees went down to Rochester and took care of business. They came out with a 133-113 victory after building up a 74-50 halftime lead.

The Ripknees had five different players who finished with at least 20 points. Johnnie Gilbert led the way with 24 points. Mitch Ohnstad posted 22 points, while Steve Esselink tallied 21. Rock Winston and Denver Tenbrook each finished with 20.

Ripknees Read at Rondo

This Saturday the Ripknees will be participating in "Ripknees Read at Rondo" during Children's Book Week. Ripknee players will be reading to the kids to promote childhood literacy. This event will take place at Rondo Community Outreach Library from 11:00 - 11:45 am. Rondo Community Library is located at 461 North Dale Street, St. Paul, MN 55103.

Public Practice

The Minnesota Ripknees will hold a public practice on Tuesday, November 20th at the Southside Boys & Girls Club in St. Cloud. This practice will give fans outside the metro their first chance to get a look at the Ripknees final squad for the season. The practice will last from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. The address of the Southside Boys & Girls Club is 1205 6th Ave S, St. Cloud, MN 56301.

Meals on Wheels

The Minnesota Ripknees will be involved with the "Meals on Wheels" association once again this year. "Meals on Wheels" is a Thanksgiving tradition, in which the Ripknees help feed over 4,000 families. This is the Ripknees second straight year being involved with the program and Coach McKenzie's 11th overall.

National Anthem & Halftime Acts

Can you sing or do you have talent? The Minnesota Ripknees are looking for you. We are looking for people interested in singing the National Anthem before home games as well as performing at halftime. We play 18 home games at Roy Wilkins Auditorium in St. Paul. If you're interested, call the office and ask for Austin at 651.647.5633. Only serious inquiries only. You will have to audition. This is a great opportunity to receive exposure!

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
