Ex-Gophers return to Williams Arena
Esselink, Holman and Ohnstad to represent Ripknees at Midnight Madness
The Golden Gopher men's basketball program has customized the traditional college basketball "Midnight Madness" as they welcome in new head coach Tubby Smith with "Tubby's Tipoff" October 12. Ripknees players and former Gophers Jerry Holman, Mitch Ohnstad and Steve Esselink will be guest judges for the slam-dunk contest at the event, which will begin at 9 p.m. at Williams Arena. Admission is free.
For more information about "Tubby's Tipoff," go to the University of Minnesota Web site.
Chipotle serves up funds
DeLaSalle High School students, parents, faculty and supporters - not to mention the regular Tuesday night burrito goers - crowded the Chipotle at 225 Hennepin Ave. East for dinner, and to support a noble cause.
Chipotle brought in $2,138 between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tuesday night and donated that money to DeLaSalle's Midnight Madness. That money was raised as part the 24-hour basketball-a-thon Oct. 12 to Oct. 13 at DeLaSalle High School and most of it will be donated to the Red Cross for its efforts at the time of the 35W bridge collapse.
The 24-hour fundraiser starts at 4 p.m. tomorrow and will end at 4 p.m. Saturday. Twenty-four one-hour basketball games will be held and the Minnesota Ripknees will take the court at 11 a.m. Saturday with the members of the DeLaSalle student body and players from the Triple Double Basketball league.

Ripknees players and staff will be volunteering at the Coats for Kids Coat Boutique from October 24 to October 26 where they will escort and assist parents in selecting coats for their children.
