Riverhawks hold off Stunners
December 8, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Quad City Riverhawks News Release
Davenport - The Quad Cities Riverhawks ABA professional basketball team held on to beat the St. Louis Stunners despite 29 turnovers. The first quarter ended in a 29-29 stale mate. Loyola of Chicago graduate Corey Minnifield scored 12 of his team leading 23 points in the first half. St. Louis was led by Milan Pepper's 15 in the first half and he ended up with a game high 32 shooting 9 of 12 from the field and a blistering 12 of 14 from the charity stripe. Chicago State grad Danny Osby ended the first half with a buzzer beating 3 - pointer to give the Riverhawks a 3 point lead at 56-53.
The Riverhawks came out determined to start the second half by buckling down defensively and ended the third stanza up by 13. The Stunners press and the Riverhawks knack to turn over the ball was almost the demise of the currently 6-2 Riverhawks as St. Louis got as close as 3 in the final quarter.
Quad City finally solved the pressure and held on for a 103-93 victory. The Riverhawks will head for St. Louis tomorrow morning for a return engagement with the Stunners.
The Riverhawks take on the Peoria Kings (1-8) on Sunday, Dec 10 at Marycrest College. Fans are encouraged to help "Bring Back the Thunder", as former Thunder legend Barry Sumpter will dress as the "13th Man" for Sunday's contest. Fans can wear their old Thunder gear or bring a church bulletin to receive a complimentary ticket with the purchase of a ticket. Tickets are available by logging onto www.etix.com, visiting the Riverhawks office at the NW Bank Tower in Bettendorf or are available at Marycrest prior to the game.
