Staten Island Yankees News Release
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.-The Staten Island Yankees swept the Vermont Lake Monsters in a doubleheader at Richmond County Bank Ballpark at St. George on Thursday afternoon.
Game one was a continuation from Wednesday's rain out and the Yankees wasted no time adding on to their carried over 1-0 lead.
Staten Island (16-15) scored seven runs in the third inning with the biggest blow delivered on a two-run single by Carlos Narvaez.
The Yankees would add two in the fifth inning and three in the seventh inning on their way to a 13-5 win in the first game.
In game two, it was more of the same as the Yankees jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning courtesy of an Ezequiel Duran home run and RBI singles from Spencer Henson and David Metzgar.
The Yankees would score four in the fourth of the shortened seven inning game on big RBI hits from Andres Chaparro and Metzgar again to make it 7-0.
Anderson Munoz threw five shutout innings and Nick Ernst finished the job with two scoreless innings to complete a 7-0 win. Staten Island outscored Vermont over the two games 20-5 as the offense delivered two of its best performances of the season on the same day.
Staten Island and Vermont meet again tomorrow at 7p.m. at Richmond County Bank Ballpark for the final game of this three-game set.
