
Tigers Split Doubleheader in Aberdeen

Norwich, CT - The Connecticut Tigers (15-17) split a doubleheader against the Aberdeen IronBrids (18-14) in two contests on Thursday night.
Game 1:
In a continuation of a game from July 2, the Tigers lost the first game of the doubleheader by a final score of 4-3 on a walk-off home run from the IronBirds. The game began in the bottom of the seventh inning with a runner at third base and two outs. The Tigers had a 3-1 lead coming into yesterday, but Aberdeen scored two unanswered runs before play was suspended.
Raul De Los Reyes (Loss, 1-1) came in to get out of a jam in the seventh inning.
After the Tigers stranded runners on base in the eighth and ninth inning, Zach Watson delivered a solo-home run to win the contest in the bottom half of the ninth. Griffin McLarty (Win, 1-0) pitched two scoreless innings with one hit allowed for Aberdeen.
Game 2:
Kyle Thomas (Win, 1-0) and Zac Shepherd (Save, 1) each picked up a career first, and the Tigers got a 3-2 win over the IronBirds in a seven inning contest.
Aberdeen got their first two runs of the game on a RBI single from Andrew Fregia to make it 2-0. Those were the only two runs surrendered by Thomas.
He went four innings with two runs on three hits with three strikeouts. This was the first win for Thomas in his career.
The Tigers responded in the fourth inning. Hector Martinez brought home a pair of runs for Connecticut on an error by the shortstop for the IronBirds. Jose King gave the Tigers the lead on a RBI-fielder's choice.
Jake Baker and Shepherd combined to throw three scoreless innings with three hits allowed. This was Shepherd's first save of his career.
The Connecticut Tigers will play a doubleheader tomorrow night in Aberdeen. In the second game of the night, it is the "Clash of the Crustaceans" as the Aberdeen IronBirds will play as the Aberdeen Steamed Crabs, and the Tigers will play as the New England Lobster Rolls.
