Toronto Argonauts News Release

Toronto – The Toronto Argonauts Football Club would like to address some issues concerning the Varsity Stadium project. The team's owners, David Cynamon and Howard Sokolowski, as well as senior management, are surprised, saddened and disappointed that the Varsity Stadium project will not be moving ahead as planned. The University of Toronto has said on the record that they have economic concerns regarding this project. The Toronto Argonauts remain committed to bringing a new facility to this city and believe the new stadium project for soccer, for FIFA under-21, and for the Argos is economically viable. The Argonauts' owners are working to bring that viability to a different site. While the University of Toronto has withdrawn its support of the project, the Argonauts would like to stress to its fans that they will continue to work to find a new home for the team.

Toronto is slated to play a key role in the FIFA World Under-21, hosting the major events in 2007. Canada's bid won on the basis of a new stadium in Toronto. The Toronto Argonauts are in serious discussions at this time, looking at options for the location of a new stadium and will let the fans know as soon as there is some good news to share.

The Toronto Argonauts are North America's oldest professional football club, having celebrated their 130th anniversary in 2003. The Toronto Argonauts have 14 Grey Cup championships to their credit.
