-SAWBUCK SERIES MATCHUP TONIGHT: The State College Spikes continue their seven-game, season-ending road trip tonight as they take on the Williamsport Crosscutters at Historic Bowman Field. It will be the first game in a three-game set, beginning the final phase of the 2009 SawBuck Series between the two teams. Williamsport leads the series this year, 5-4, after having won four of the six games against State College at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. The Crosscutters also lead the all-time series, 23-22.
-LAST GAME: The Spikes scored early and often and shut out the Batavia Muckdogs on four hits in a 7-0 win at Dwyer Stadium. With the win, State College took the season series from Batavia by a 6-4 margin. Brock Holt went 3-for-4 with two RBI, and Craig Parry added a pair of doubles to finish with three RBI on the night. Jeff Inman, making his first pro start, joined with Jason Erickson, Nathan Baker, and Mike Williams to pitch the Spikes' fourth shutout on the year. Erickson got the win with four innings of one-hit ball.
-MAC ON TRACK FOR FINAL SPIKES START: Right-hander Kyle McPherson goes to the hill for State College tonight in what will likely be his last start in the 2009 season. McPherson, named the 2009 Spikes Pitcher of the Year this past Sunday, leads the Spikes in both starts (12) and strikeouts (59) on the season. McPherson also has 9 quality starts on the year.
-MUCKDOGS TO START HOOKER: Williamsport will turn to right-hander Siulman LeBron for the fourth time this season, five nights after he went a season-long 7-2/3 innings in a loss to the Spikes in State College. LeBron has gone seven or more innings in seven different starts this season. , However, the native Dominican is 0-4 with a 6.08 ERA this August.
-TRIO OF SPIKES EARN YEAR-END HONORS: In a ceremony prior to Sunday's home finale, three State College Spikes were honored with the team's annual year-end awards. Infielder Brock Holt was named the Spikes' team MVP for the 2009 season, while right-hander Kyle McPherson earned the Spikes Pitcher of the Year award, and outfielder David Rubinstein netted the inagural Leadership Award, presented by the Spikes Booster Club.
