-SPIKES LOOK FOR SERIES WIN: The State College Spikes look to win back-to-back road series in the second game of a three-game series against the Jamestown Jammers tonight at Russell Diethrick Park. The Spikes are now 2-1 at Diethrick Park this year, having split a doubleheader with Jamestown in their last visit, and are 5-3 against the Jammers overall in 2009. Jamestown leads the all-time series, 21-17.
-LAST NIGHT: The Spikes took advantage of two early Jammers errors, and a season-high nine walks, and added enough firepower to produce an 8-1 win at Diethrick Park last night. Aaron Baker had a multi-hit game, including his fifth triple of the year and two runs batted in. Pat Irvine produced his 38th RBI on the season as well, tying him with Staten Island's Neil Medchill for second in the New York-Penn League. Nelson Pereira retired 12 of the 13 batters he faced, including five strikeouts, in four innings of relief for the win. Phillip Irwin started for State College and also struck out five over four innings.
-BAKER GETS BALL FOR SPIKES : Left-hander Nathan Baker gets his first start as a professsional when he goes to the mound tonight for State College. The fifth-round draft pick out of the University of Mississippi has made four outings so far this year for the Spikes, allowing three earned runs over that span. Baker last pitched four innings of relief against Brooklyn this past Thursday where he allowed no runs on two hits and a walk.
-JAMESTOWN TO START O'GARA: Jammers right-hander Joe O'Gara takes the hill tonight. O'Gara has allowed a .353 average against him so far this year, and makes his third start in 15 total appearances. The southpaw is 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA in two appearances against State College in 2009, and will try to rebound from a 16.88 ERA in his last two outings.
-CHAMBERS ON A ROLL: Spikes outfielder Evan Chambers has taken to his new role as the State College leadoff hitter over the last five games, reaching base 14 times in 22 plate appearances for a .636 on-base percentage. Chambers has also scored seven runs and knocked in three over that span, while drawing a walk in each game.
