Vermont Lake Monsters News Release

BROOKLYN, NY --- J.P. Ramirez went 4-for-6 with two home runs and scored the winning run after doubling with two outs in the top of the 10th inning as the Vermont Lake Monsters beat the Brooklyn Cyclones 7-6 in New York-Penn League action Wednesday night at KeySpan Park.

Ramirez hit a solo homer in the first inning and added a two-run homer in the third inning to become the 13th Lake Monster player all-time to hit two home runs in a game, the last being Steve Souza against Lowell on June 26, 2008.

His third hit was a single in the fourth inning before a strikeout in the sixth and groundout in the eighth. Then in the 10th inning, Ramirez doubled with two outs and scored the eventual winning run on Justin Bloxom's third single of the game. Brooklyn got the tying run on base with one out on a hit batter, but Dean Weaver induced Alex Gregory to ground into a game-ending double play for his first save with Vermont.

Francisco Soriano, who also had an RBI single in the game, hit his first home run to leadoff the third as the Lake Monsters scored four runs in the inning for a 5-1 lead. After Ramirez's two-run homer, the Lake Monsters added another run on a one-out RBI triple from Sandy Leon, who also had a double in the second inning and three hits in the game.

The Cyclones rallied from the 6-2 deficit with two runs in the bottom of the fifth, then single runs in the seventh and eighth innings. The game-tying run came on a two-out Dock Doyle RBI double off of Vermont closer Clayton Dill, who entered the game having not allowed any of his 13 inherited runners to score.

The Lake Monsters had a season-high 16 hits in the game and also set a season high with three home runs in the contest. With the victory, Vermont won two of the three games in the series at Brooklyn and also got their first-ever season-series victory over the Cyclones by winning four of the six meetings against the McNamara Division leaders.

Richard Lucas was 2-for-5 with three runs, while Doyle was 3-for-4 with the game-tying RBI double. Starter Collin McHugh was touched for five runs in just 1 2/3 innings, while Brandon Sage (3-2) gave up the winning run in the 10th to take the loss for Brooklyn (41-24).

Vermont (30-34), which won three of five games on the roadtrip, returns to historic Centennial Field to begin an eight-day and final homestand of the season on Thursday night as the Lake Monsters host Aberdeen beginning at 7:05 pm.
