Niles, OH- On Wednesday night, the Mahoning Valley Scrappers played game two of a three game homestand beating the Batavia Muckdogs 11-6. With the win the Scrappers are now 42-23, and a NYPL best 22-10 at Eastwood Field. The Scrappers magic number is currently six.

Scrappers starter Clayton Cook pitched the first four innings and gave up four runs on five hits, while walking three and striking out three. Austin Adams pitched the next three innings, allowed two runs, and recorded his first victory of the season. Tyler Studervant closed out the game pitching the final two innings, giving up one hit while striking out one.

The Muckdogs jumped out to an early lead scoring three in the 1st and one in the 2nd to take a 4-0 lead. The 3rd inning was the biggest of the season for Mahoning Valley. The Scrappers sent 13 men to the plate and scored eight runs on just four hits. The Scrappers were able to manufacture a few runs in the inning coming from a combination of walks, hit batsmen, an error, a stolen base, and a wild pitch. Consecutive doubles from Juan Aponte, Tim Palincsar and Jordan Henry topped off the inning giving Mahoning Valley an 8-4 lead. The Scrappers added two more in the 4th when Rafael Vera delivered a two RBI double. The Muckdogs added two runs in the 5th and the Scrappers capped off the scoring with a run in the 7th in the Scrappers 11-6 victory.

Thursday, the Mahoning Valley Scrappers are at home for the final game of a three game series against the Batavia Muckdogs. Marty Popham is scheduled to make the start for the Scrappers; he is 5-1 with a 2.81 ERA. Thursday's game starts at 7:05 PM and can only be heard online at mvscrappers.com.
