-SPIKES POTENTIAL SPOILERS TONIGHT: The State College Spikes continue their final series of the year in the second of three games with the Williamsport Crosscutters tonight at Historic Bowman Field. Williamsport is a half-game in front of Jamestown for the New York-Penn League Wild Card, meaning the Spikes could put a damper on their playoff hopes.
-LAST GAME: Zack Dodson and Joely Rodriguez combined to hold the Crosscutters to just six hits, but Williamsport responded by limiting State College to just two as the Spikes fell for the eighth straight night, 3-0, at Historic Bowman Field last night. Dodson went five innings to tie his season high for a single outing.
-CUMPTON MAKES START FOR SPIKES: Right-hander Brandon Cumpton makes his third pro start, and fourth pro appearance, tonight for State College. After allowing no runs and just one hit in his first five innings as a Spike, Cumpton yielded three runs on five hits over 2.2 innings in his last outing at Batavia five nights ago.
-CASTILLO MAKES NYPL DEBUT: The Crosscutters start one of their newest additions tonight as right-hander Lendy Castillo heads to the mound. Castillo, one of five Gulf Coast League Phillies called up to Williamsport yesterday, went 3-1 with a 2.22 ERA this summer in the GCL. The native Dominican also struck out 51 while walking 18 and allowing a .212 average.
-SANTOS NETS WEEKLY AWARD: Adalberto Santos was named the New York-Penn League's Player of the Week on Monday after going 8-for-18 at the plate with a homer for the week. Santos is in ties for fifth in the NYPL in runs (45) and third in on-base percentage (.407).
-SPIKES WELCOME SINGH TO CLUB: Rinku Singh, one of the two pitchers signed from India by the Pirates in 2008, joined the Spikes on Monday. Singh, a left-hander out of Lucknow, India, went 2-0 with a save and a 2.61 ERA for the GCL Pirates in 2010.
